Fatu read her first book

Fatu who is four years and ten months old, just read her first book from cover to cover. The book, titled "Thanksgiving Mice" is about 300 to 350 words written by Bethany Roberts and illustrated by Doug Cushman.

Thanksgiving Mice is about the discovery of America surrounding the first settler that arrived here and the problems they encountered.

Since she learned to read she has been making the round, by running to every visitors that "I can read, I can read." She has also been collecting $10.00 and $5.00 and others with more gift of books from visitors who have tipped her as an encouragement.

Ironically, her younger sister Miah, 3, is insisting that i have to teach her how to read as well, even though she hasn't written her first letter.

Fatu is mid way into her second book, "At the End of the Rainbow" which is more worded than "Thanksgiving Mice". This is a story about the value of treasure.

Of course, she starts school in about 35 days at the St. Mark's Catholic School in Bristol.

A whirlwind of a ride...

To say that we have been extremely busy would be an underestimation. Since the beginning of the season, some six weeks ago, we have been extremely lucky to have our clout full with bids after bids coming in our direction. All we can ask is that we hope it continue.

We have started building our clientele from a referral prospective. Instead of the usual way of chasing clients, we are been referred to by one satisfied client to another.

We just won a well earned bid!

           Yep, The story behind this bid is one of persistence.  After my agency referred him to me. The home owner and i agreed on an unusual appointment to be at his house by 6am, last Tuesday. And since the place is all the way in Southampton, I left the comfort of my bed at 5:30am to drive the nearly twenty miles distance. But when i got there he had an emergency that night with his daughter. Not knowing, I sat there for about half hour without words. I drove home,  licking my wound.
            Any how being a gentleman, he called me back that evening and we scheduled a new appointment for Saturday. On Saturday, i got there at 12:30pm, as we have agreed, but again, he arrived an hour and half late. He called to ask me, if i would come back another time. I told him i would wait.
            The job had been bid on by another contractor already. He was kind enough to tell me; without hesitance i beat the other contractor with $700.00. And we got the job.
          I will take my team there this Saturday. I'm hoping that we can do it in three to four days. Now that's what they called the heart of a business man. Persistence. Persistence. And more Persistence.

Just wrapped week two,...

I just wrapped up week two today, and already exhausted. I guess the yearning was only the result of  boredom from the long vacation. The good news is that jobs are coming from all corners or from the woods if you might add. I added a new guy to our team. Currently about to wrap up the first major contract of the season. It's an EP Henry job. The irony is that i'm doing it for my neighbor.  

...And the vacation ends!

My long vacation officially ended today with a commencement of a project just a block away from my house. This is a lead that at first i was reluctant to accept when it was forwarded to me by my service. But it has already proven to be a good lead. It will keep my workers off the fence into the work force while we look for the officially roll out of summer. Stay tune for detail and photos from this job.

Fatu got Enrolled at St. Mark's Catholic School Today

        Today, i just registered my daughter, Fatu Aung Sang Sesay successfully at the St. Mark Catholic School in Bristol. This is huge deal for us. Because, Fatu was born on September 6, and because the school year starts on September 1, two other Catholic schools in the area had refused to enroll her as a Kindergartner. Because of the few days they have argued that she should sit in pre-school for a whole year.
     If i might add, this year, because of the labor day holiday, the school year starts on September 4th, just two days short of her birthday. So understandably, I refused to accept that option.  Beside the whole year financial burden that i have to incur, that would be delaying her entire life for a whole year. It would be a year of delay out of high school, a year of delay into college and or a year of delay into any post-college graduate that she might want to pursue. So i have been making the round at various private schools around the Bristol area and neighbors. Luckily, the folks at St. Mark accepted her.
       All they were concerned about was if she is attending pre-school. She has been enrolled at the Kinder Learning Center (a pre-school) since she was a year old. Beside that, she and I have a nightly two hours studies, seven day a week. And because of all those factors, she now has the intelligence to count up to 150 or more depending on the day, do simple addition and subtraction and write eligibly - which is far ahead of her four and half years.
       I have explained all of this to the two previous schools, and yet, they wanted my baby to spend another year in pre-school for God knows what reasons.
     If any parent out there has had any experience dealing with this age gap for enrollment for their kid(s), i would like to know how they dealt with it.
